Steve Sullivan Becomes Baylor Scott & White Health Chief Strategy Officer

Steve Sullivan is taking on the role of chief strategy officer for Baylor Scott & White Health – a position he previously held at Temple-based Scott & White Healthcare. Baylor Scott & White Health is the newly formed parent company for the combined health systems of Scott & White Healthcare and Baylor Health Care System. Sullivan brings more than three decades of experience in manufacturing, supply chain management, quality improvement and product development to his new position.

"The health care marketplace is changing from one of volume to one of value – that is, health care providers are increasingly being reimbursed based on the outcomes of the care they provide patients and not just the amount of services they provide," says Sullivan. "Maximizing the value our patients receive is at the heart of my responsibility as chief strategy officer."

Sullivan will work closely with other members of the senior leadership team at Baylor Scott & White Health to develop and execute plans to better care for communities and increase efficiency.

Prior to joining Scott & White Healthcare in April 2012, Sullivan spent the bulk of his career in the technology industry. He served in various domestic and international leadership roles with Intel Corporation, introducing Lean manufacturing practices to the company's operations in Malaysia and Costa Rica. His efforts helped achieve breakthrough performance in cost, quality and productivity.

"Today, health care is perhaps an even more rapidly changing field than technology," says Sullivan. "Our goal is not only to thrive in a post-health care reform world, but to be looked to as a leader in it."

Trained as an engineer, Sullivan holds three technology patents. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Cornell University. While at Intel, he earned his Master of Science in Engineering from San Jose State University and a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University.

"I think my background brings a different perspective to the leadership team," says Sullivan. "I look forward to working alongside all of our employees across Texas to provide the best value and the best care for our patients."
