Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery Now an Option in Denton

The Heart Hospital Baylor Denton performs first surgery of this kind in Denton

Denton's first minimally invasive aortic valve replacement surgery was performed on June 19, 2015 at The Heart Hospital Baylor Denton*. Minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgery procedures allow surgeons to perform isolated valve surgery on high-risk patients, such as the very elderly for whom open heart surgery may not be the best approach or those requiring repeat procedures.

Minimally invasive procedures require smaller incisions and typically allow patients to recover more quickly than with traditional surgery.  Other benefits may include: less blood loss, lower risk of infection, reduced trauma and pain, and smaller, less noticeable scars.  Typically, the patient has a faster recovery and return to normal activities.

"We're excited to be the first hospital in Denton to perform a minimally invasive aortic heart valve heart surgery," said Brad K. Morgan, vice president of operations, The Heart Hospital Baylor Denton.

"THHBD has opened a new array of advanced heart surgery technology to Denton residents," said Tung Cai, MD, medical director of the cardiothoracic program.
