Matthew Chambers is New Chief Information Officer for Baylor Scott & White Health

Matthew Chambers has been named chief information officer (CIO) for Baylor Scott & White Health, the newly formed parent company for the combined health systems of Scott & White Healthcare and Baylor Health Care System. Chambers now manages the complex information technology (IT) infrastructure, programs, security and department staff of the new organization.

In his capacity as CIO for the largest not-for-profit health care provider in the state, Chambers also is responsible for safeguarding the protected health information of Baylor Scott & White Health patients and leading upgrades to the organization’s electronic health record.

"Health care information technology is becoming increasingly important in eliminating repetition and reducing waste and inefficiencies in the health care system, while improving patient care – and not just at Baylor Scott & White Health, but around the nation," says Chambers. "That’s why there’s been such a huge push to transition to electronic health records over the past several years. It’s really an exciting time to be in health care IT."

Chambers previously served as CIO for Scott & White Healthcare. He is a graduate of the University of Texas management information systems program and a Certified Healthcare CIO from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. In addition, he is certified as a Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.

Prior to joining the health care sector, Chambers held IT leadership positions at KPMG, BearingPoint and James Martin & Co., where he led large-scale business and technology transformation projects. Many of those projects focused on post-transaction merger and acquisition integration and IT strategy and transformation.

"We must increase efficiency in the way we deliver care and share information. Bringing two systems of this magnitude together gives us the opportunity to leverage innovative, patient-centered technologies to help change the face of American healthcare," says Chambers.
