Dallas Moms Vote Baylor University Medical Center 'Best Place to Have a Baby'

Dallas Child's annual Best for Moms + Babies reader survey ranks top picks for families

For readers of Dallas Child magazine, Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas is the preferred place to deliver a bundle of joy in Dallas County. The hospital was voted "Best Place to Have a Baby" in the magazine's annual "Best for Moms + Babies" reader survey.

Baylor University Medical Center delivered more than 4,700 babies last year. Support for new moms includes pregnancy and childbirth classes, Mommy & Me classes and dedicated lactation consultants.

"We're honored to be recognized for our commitment to caring for moms and babies," said Kristine DeButy, RN, nurse manager of the labor and delivery unit at Baylor University Medical Center. "Our caregivers work hard to provide quality, compassionate care and to give patients and their families an exceptional birth experience."

Patients who deliver at Baylor University Medical Center have the reassurance of a dedicated high-risk pregnancy unit and an 83-bed level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), which provides the highest level of care to critically ill infants. Families with infants staying in the NICU benefit from the NICVIEW™ camera system, which gives real-time viewing access through a secure connection on their phone or computer when they can't be with their baby in person.

Baylor University Medical Center also participates in many research trials that contribute to best care practices locally and at hospitals across the nation. Recent studies involved utilizing a cranial gel cap for babies in the NICU to prevent head flattening, cooling the uterus to decrease blood loss during C-sections with the goal to decrease maternal mortality, and delaying cord clamping to help reduce a preemie's risk of bleeding in the brain.

Baylor University Medical Center has been ranked #1 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hospitals" list for the past five years and has been awarded the Texas Ten Step Award for promoting a mother-friendly environment.
