Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth Earns Highest Level of Chest Pain Accreditation

First North Texas hospital to earn designation, recognizes expertise treating heart attack patients

Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth is the first facility in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to earn v5 Chest Pain Center Accreditation, the highest designation for heart attack care given by The Society of Chest Pain Centers.

"Nearly 35 percent of Tarrant County area deaths each year are attributed to heart disease," said Janice Whitmire, chief operating officer and interim president of Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center Fort Worth. "This recognition reflects our commitment to quality heart care and best practices in the treatment of heart attack for our community."

More than five million Americans visit hospitals each year with chest pain. An Accredited Chest Pain Center's evidence-based, protocol-driven and systematic approach to cardiac patient care allows clinicians to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack. Accredited facilities better monitor patients when it is not initially clear whether a patient is having a coronary event to help prevent them from being sent home too early or needlessly admitted.
By achieving Chest Pain Center Accreditation, Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth demonstrates expertise in the following areas:

  • Integrating the emergency department with the local emergency medical system
  • Assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients quickly
  • Effectively treating patients at low risk for acute coronary syndrome and no assignable cause for their symptoms
  • Continually seeking to improve processes and procedures
  • Confirming the competence and training of Accredited Chest Pain Center personnel
  • Maintaining organizational structure and commitment
  • Constructing a functional design that promotes optimal patient care
  • Supporting community outreach programs that educate the public to promptly seek medical care if they display symptoms of a possible heart attack
