New Clinical Trials Center Brings “Big” Hope To Cancer Patients

Innovative Clinical Trials Center Now Open at Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center

Dallas is now the home of a new Phase I clinical trials center. The Swim Across America Innovative Clinical Trials Center, named for the national Swim Across America organization that raises money and awareness for cancer research, has opened at Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center on the campus of Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas.

“The opening of our Innovative Clinical Trials Center means that we can bring hope to more patients with difficult-to-treat cancers,” said Carlos Becerra, MD, medical director of the Swim Across America Innovative Clinical Trials Center. “Patients who receive Phase I clinical trials have not responded to standard cancer treatments, so it is important to be able to offer them the opportunity to participate in clinical research for the newest, most promising therapies. These are now available at the Swim Across America Innovative Clinical Trials Center at Baylor.”

In 2011, Swim Across America – Dallas began with a pledge to raise $1 million for the Baylor Sammons Cancer Center in four years. Each year since then, more than 200 Olympians, recreational swimmers and volunteers gather at Lake Ray Hubbard to make waves to fight cancer.

Employees, patients, family and friends are invited to take their picture throughout October as the “I” between the “B” and “G” letters located at 3410 Worth Street and to share the photos on social media. Photos on twitter and instagram can be tagged with @BaylorHealth and the hashtag #DallasBIG, and can also be posted directly to the Baylor Health Care System facebook page: Facebook.com/BaylorHealth
