Medical Documentary Series “Dallas Hope” Set to Premiere on Local ABC Affiliate WFAA-TV

Dallas-based Reality Show Features Three Heroic Patients Fighting Cancer

What’s it like to fight for your life against cancer as cameras follow each step of your journey? A new medical reality show will paint an intimate portrait of three people doing just that, sharing their everyday acts of courage, faith and yes, hope...

The Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center, Baylor T. Boone Pickens Cancer Hospital, and three Baylor patients are the subject of the three-part, inspirational new documentary, Dallas Hope, premiering Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. on WFAA Channel 8, and continuing Nov. 15 and 17 also at 6:30 p.m. on Channel 8.

Emmy and Peabody award-winning documentary filmmaker Tony Martinez went to Baylor for this latest project. The groundbreaking Dallas documentary will feature three cancer patients and their families’ emotional journeys, as they each fight different forms of the deadly disease.

“I am in awe of the heroes we are profiling and their everyday acts of courage, faith and yes, hope.  At the same time I am aware that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” says Martinez. “Rarely, if ever, has such a prestigious medical center, with such strict privacy standards, welcomed cameras like this.”

Viewers will watch as Michelle Berndt, a 30-year-old mother of two and Mrs. Texas pageant contestant, fights breast cancer. Meanwhile, 25-year-old leukemia patient Cherysse Daniels holds out hope that her brother is a stem cell match, so she can get the bone marrow transplant she needs to survive.

And 78-year-old Bill the "Bull" Bradford, no stranger to a challenge, faces one of his most formidable opponents, terminal lymphoma. Will the clinical trial he enrolled in help him beat the odds?

“We couldn’t be prouder of this show, and all the people at Baylor who care for these brave patients during such a difficult time,” says Alan Miller, MD, PhD, chief of oncology for Baylor Health Care System. “Cancer may be a devastating disease, but it also brings out the best in people. That really shines through in each episode.”

Martinez agrees. “I’ve worked on documentaries about sports figures and World War II, but this is definitely one of the most moving projects I’ve ever been a part of. I think everyone who tunes in will be captivated.”
