Baylor Plano Names Medical Director of Orthopedic Oncology

Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano is proud to announce Gerhard Maale, M.D., as medical director of orthopedic oncology.

Dr. Maale received his medical degree from University of Florida College of Medicine and went on to complete training at the University of Florida and University of Virginia. Dr. Maale has served on several university faculties and is currently serving as a clinical professor of orthopedics at Texas A&M University Medical School. He also has initiated a variety of orthopedic infection protocols which he is asked to speak on at both national and international meetings.

Dr. Maale’s background in DNA biochemistry, molecular biology and bioengineering have helped him to pioneer treatments for biofilms related orthopedic infections. He has published extensively on this subject and some of his more recent publications deal with the one stage treatment of infected total joints with a 90% success rate for eradication of infection. Dr. Maale’s DNA background has lead to the development of new avenues for rapidly identifying and treating bacterial infections in the joints.

“With Dr. Maale joining the Baylor Plano team as medical director we will be able to enhance the comprehensive joint and oncology care we currently provide our patients,” said Jerri Garison, president, Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano.
