Faith In Action Initiatives Program Sends Medical Supplies To Syrian Refugees

Employees and volunteers to pack a shipment Sept. 26 bound for Lebanon

On Thursday, Sept. 26, Baylor employees and volunteers will be packing up medical supplies that are bound for Syrian refugees who have fled to Lebanon because of the conflict in their home country. Coordinated by Baylor Health Care System Faith In Action Initiatives, the effort includes sending hospital stretchers, exam tables, IV poles, therapy tables, surgical bandaging, surgery packs, gloves, sutures, syringes, and needles. These items are needed because many of the refugees are in need of routine medical care as well as emergency medical attention.

“These medical supplies, which are no longer needed by Baylor Health Care System, can make a tremendous difference to the medical facilities that are providing medical care to refugees from Syria,” said Don Sewell, director of Faith In Action Initiatives at Baylor Health Care System. “We work with hospitals throughout our own healthcare system as well as other companies and clinics to gather these supplies.” The shipment will leave from the aptly named “Second Life Resources” warehouse on the campus of Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas.

Baylor’s Faith in Action Initiatives mobilizes the Baylor Health Care System family and like-minded organizations to address the medical and spiritual needs of communities locally and throughout the world through education, missions, redirection of resources and disaster relief. To date, Baylor’s Faith in Action Initiatives have benefited people in need in more than 30 countries with hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical supplies and equipment.
