Baylor Health Care System’s Faith In Action Initiatives Program Reaches “Big” Milestone

“Second Life Resources” Program has Donated More Than $1 Million in Recycled Medical Equipment

Two defibrillators for a hospital in North Korea. Stretchers, therapy tables, and IV poles to Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Hygiene kits to the survivors of the tornadoes in Moore, Okla. These and many other medical supplies and equipment were donated to those in need locally and around the world through Baylor’s Faith In Action Initiatives “Second Life Resources” program. The four-year-old program has now donated more than $1 million in medical supplies and equipment.

“Baylor’s Faith In Action Initiatives cooperates with many other groups and hospitals in Dallas,” said Dr. Don Sewell, director of Faith In Action Initiatives for Baylor Health Care System. “Anything that we can do with extra supplies and equipment that aren’t needed anymore here in Dallas make a tremendous difference to those in need around the world.”

Baylor’s Faith in Action Initiatives mobilizes the Baylor Health Care System family and like-minded organizations to address the medical and spiritual needs of communities locally and throughout the world through education, missions, redirection of resources and disaster relief. To date, Baylor’s Faith in Action Initiatives have benefited people in need in more than 30 countries with more than $1 million dollars in medical supplies and equipment. In addition, a Faith in Action Initiatives program titled Sacred Vocation enhances the spiritual roots of purpose and meaning for Baylor employees as they serve the needs of their patients and communities beyond Baylor. Faith in Action Initiatives also publishes daily inspiration articles for all Baylor employees and provides education, resources, and networking to faith community health ministries.

Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas is the newest location for a set of “B” and “G” letters that are part of the ongoing branding campaign that the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau is doing for the City of Dallas. The letters are currently located at 3410 Worth Street. Employees, patients, family and friends are invited to take their picture throughout October as the “I” between the “B” and “G” letters and to share the photos on social media.
