Dallas Skin Cancer Conference for Medical Professionals to Focus on Detection, Therapy and Research

Skin Malignancy Research and Treatment Center at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas Launches with Continuing Medical Education Event

The latest advances in skin malignancy identification, therapy and research will be discussed Saturday, May 16, at "Skin Cancer: Updates and Emerging Treatments," a continuing medical education event for clinicians. Expert faculty will present data on modern advances in the dermatologic and surgical management of skin malignancies as well as advances in the medical management of advanced melanoma.

"We are excited to be able to bring so many great minds in dermatology and cancer treatment to Dallas for this inaugural continuing medical education event," said Caitriona Ryan, MD, FAAD, vice chair, department of dermatology, Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas and co-director of the May 16 event.

"This gathering will highlight the best of our efforts, including our new skin cancer center," said C. Lance Cowey, MD, medical director of the new Skin Malignancy Research and Treatment Center at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas and co-director of the May 16 event. "From genetic profiling and phase I clinical trials to nurse navigators who help our patients through each step in their cancer battle, our focus is providing a personalized approach to each patient. We'll be sharing some of our best practices on May 16."

Topics include adjuvant therapies, targeted therapies, and immunotherapies for melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer, with presentations such as:

Skin Malignancy Research and Treatment Center Offers Advanced Options

Patients with skin cancer now have a new resource: the Skin Malignancy Cancer Research and Treatment Center at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. The Center's multidisciplinary team includes specialists in genetic counseling, patient navigation, dermatology, dermatopathology, surgery, medical oncology and radiation oncology. Additionally, Baylor's research resources are center stage in this new skin malignancy initiative. The research team includes members of Baylor Research Institute and Baylor Institute for Immunology Research.

In addition to the clinical expertise available to patients, a wide range of support services are available. Compassionate professionals in the fields of palliative care, nutrition, psychology, music intervention, fitness, social work and pastoral care are an integral part of the care team.
